Surgical Technologist Program Description
Surgical technologists are important members of the surgical team. They work under the supervision and authority of the surgeon, within the scope of practice of state law and hospital policy.
In this role, surgical team members help prepare the operating room by setting up sterile surgical instruments, equipment, supplies, and medications. They may also assist the surgeon with PPE, transport the patient to the operating room, position and drape the patient for the procedure, prepare the skin for surgery, and assist the surgeon during the procedure as needed.
This online course introduces learners to the surgical technologist career, the role of the surgical technologist in the operating room, and key foundational concepts used in surgical settings.
